Miss Bunz

About

Hello! And, welcome to my website!

My name is Miss Bunz.  I am a 11 year old dwarf mix, living on Cape Cod.  I weigh 3 1/2 pounds and my birthday is celebrated on Valentine’s Day.  You can read my full story here via The Dodo.  There’s also a fun article by The Daily Dot about my coincidental resemblance to Zootopia‘s Judy Hopps.

Miss BunzThe first 3 years of my life were spent with a different family than the one I have now.  During that time, I was housed in the same cage as another female bunny. Neither of us received much attention and we did not get many opportunities to play outside our cage. Eventually, my first family moved away but they didn’t take me nor my companion.

Homeless, we ended up at the MSPCA in Centerville.  While we were there, my bunny companion passed away.  In a very short time, I lost my human family and the only bunny friend I ever had.  Needless to say, I became very skittish and distrustful of new people, new bunnies, and new environments.

I was at the MSPCA for a long three months.  While I was there, I was nearly adopted twice but plans fell through both times.  I thought I’d never find a new home.  But one day, my future mom stopped in to feed the bunnies.  I think she fell in love with me immediately (or so she says)!  She didn’t adopt me right away — she was still grieving the loss of her bunny boy, Hershey.  But for three weeks, she came in every few days to visit with me.  I wasn’t very friendly — in fact, I’d often hide from her.  Luckily, my behavior did not deter her.  She felt strongly that with a bit of love and patience, I would learn to trust her.  And so, she adopted me and sure enough, as I started to trust her, I also began to live a happy life as a house rabbit.

Since 2012, I have been cage free!   I have my own room but I also have access to the rest of the house.  When the weather is nice, mom takes me outside into the garden where I can nap, run, dig, and explore.  I am even harness trained so that I can play beyond my x-pens.

I created this website to share my adventures and help educate current bunny slaves (or soon-to-be slaves) about raising a happy and healthy house rabbit.  Thanks for checking me out and I hope to get to know you soon!
