2015: My Year in Review

2016 is approaching quickly and I am looking forward to making new memories.  In thinking about the new year, I can’t help but remember all the fun I had in 2015.  Life as a house rabbit just couldn’t be better!

2015 started with record snow fall on Cape Cod.  I’ve played in snow before but never got to experience it like I did in 2015.  I even went on my very first polar plunge!

Winter outdoor play is fun but I also continued to enjoy playtime in my warm and cozy room.  Peek-a-boo is one of my favorite past times!

Mom laughs every time we play peek-a-boo!

When the ground thawed, our late spring brought my garden back to life.  There’s nothing quite like digging in the dirt and getting my paws dirty.  Mom doesn’t use any chemicals in the yard, which keeps the grass yummy for nibbling.  As an expert gardener, I kept the bunny safe plants like echinacea and black-eyed susan from overgrowing by trimming them with my teeth.  I also kept a close eye on my favorite plants — my Japanese maple and the hosta growing around my oak tree.

Over the summer, my humans and I hosted a special guest named Ivory.  Ivory was a bichon shih tzu mix.  She was sweet and eager to be my friend.  We didn’t have much in common except that we were both huge football fans!  Sadly, Ivory passed away a few months ago. I didn’t have a chance to get to know her well but I have fond memories of enjoying the Cape Cod summer days with her while discussing football strategy.

In the fall, I kept my neighborhood safe by going on patrol.  Just seeing me out and about kept the squirrels in line.  During one of my shifts, I saw a snake that appeared to be up to no good.  I questioned him and in my sternest police bun voice, I instructed him to move along.  He left and I haven’t seen him since.  Mom is afraid of snakes so I must do my best to protect and serve!

I am always alert and aware of my surroundings while on patrol.

When I am not working as a police bun, I dress up like a belly dancer and show mom some of my best dance moves.  She could certainly learn a thing or two from me!

While I was recovering from E. cuniculi, I participated in General Mill’s Real Trix Rabbit contest.  I was in my very first photo shoot and it was a blast!  I was even selected as a finalist!!  At the time of this publication, the Real Trix Rabbit had not yet been named but no matter which bun wins the title, it’s a victory for all buns.  There were over 7500 submissions and that’s a testament to how many humans are lucky enough to share their homes with us!  You can read more about the fun I had with the contest by clicking here.

I’ve had many wonderful adventures as a house rabbit.  But there’s one thing I haven’t been able to do and that is to travel the world.  I am enthralled by mom’s travel stories and since I can’t see the world famous monuments myself, she decided to bring them to me.  So far, I’ve collected the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben.  I am hoping to add London Bridge, the leaning tower of Pisa, and Germany’s Neuschwanstein Castle to my collection.  Nothing will stop me from conquering the world!

During the holidays, I participated in the Twitter community’s Secret Santa.  I sent a gift all the way to Holland and received one from England!  I also helped mom bake gingerbunz cookies, which we sent all around the country.  On Christmas, I surprised mom with a new coffee mug.  She is an avid coffee drinker so what better way to start her day?

I was on Santa’s nice list (was there ever any doubt?) so he brought me a very pawsome gift — a night light that projects different images onto the ceiling and walls!  My favorite image is the one of Earth.  I hope that with my police experience, NASA will accept me into the astronaut training program.  I would certainly love to be the first bun in space!

I’d make an excellent astrobun!

2015 was a great year for me.  I’m not sure what 2016 has in store but I am certain that it will be another year of discovery and joy!
